EVENT – Get Your Michie Sushi On at IFSC*

Cookie FM Rating – 4/5

I am a big fan of Japanese cuisine, it’s actually in my top three favourites of all time, and I particularly love sushi and pretty much anything in tempura batter. Earlier this month the newest venue for Michie Sushi opened at George’s Dock, IFSC that is a perfect location for business lunches, after work drinks & nibbles, and all-round delicious pick me up food. I was invited to the opening launch (October 12) to sample the food and take in the atmosphere, as well as the lovely view across the docks at dusk. Founded in 2007 by Michel Piare & Anna van Exel, Michie Sushi (pronounced “Mich-ee-yay”) began its business in Ranelagh as a small takeaway and catering company but has since become a renowned and award-winning establishment that boasts four restaurant locations in Ranelagh, Dun Laoghaire, Sandyford and now at the IFSC, alongside two Sushi Bars in both Avoca Rathcoole, Dublin and Avoca Kilmacanougue, Wicklow.

The restaurant at the IFSC location seats 40 people, with elegant interior design featuring cream leather seating and iroko wooden details with subtle accents of grey, red and neon. A two-storey design, the walls are decorated with bespoke artwork by Irish visual artist & printmaker Ann Kavanagh, bar stools overlooking the large open kitchen amidst the modern and elegant dining room upstairs, views across the water from the balcony, and a ‘grab-and-go’ takeaway option downstairs too. What makes Michie IFSC even more special is that their menu includes their much-loved hand-rolled sushi and has expanded to include hot food like ramen, tempura, teppanyaki, yaki soba & udon as well as desserts, with which you can dine in style as the carefully selected range of wines & champagne specifically complement their Japanese cuisine and dishes.

During the opening launch evening, I was delighted to try a selection of these tasty bites including the Teppanyaki Sliced Fillet Steak, Tuna Sashimi, Salmon Sashimi, Cucumber Maki, Yellow Radish Maki, the Ebi Fry Roll (breadcrumbed prawn, avocado & mayonnaise), Prawn Tempura and more. Every single piece was as delicious as the next, with fresh vegetables, plenty of flavour, perfectly seared meat & fish and beautiful presentation.

The atmosphere was full of excitement with a full house as plenty of the local businessmen & businesswomen attended in support of the new venue, as well as a select few bloggers and press. I enjoyed the event, and can happily say that I will definitely be back for more Japanese cuisine.
