Sia – This Is Acting (2016)

COOKIE FM RATING – 4/5

At then end of January, Sia released her seventh studio album, This Is Acting (2016). As you know from my blog post on her music video, Big Girls Cry (2015), Cookie FM is a big fan of the Australian artist. When in your twenties, you’re introduced to a whole new wave of feelings you would not have experienced in your teen years. So when an artist like Sia is around to sing out the similar scenarios, the relatable feelings and the same thoughts to what you currently feel too – you can’t help but love her. Sia is a lyrical genius. But she’s also a musical genius. From her vocal abilities, to the instrumentation, progression and the production, this new album is everything I’ve wanted to listen to and then some. Bird Set Free is a powerful opening track to the LP, followed by two equally powerful tracks before introducing an up-tempo beat that you can truly dance to, smartly entitled Move Your Body. The song is bound to make it into the clubs, as well as Cheap Thrills which houses big sounds & epitomizes the fun we should hear in music, with its party-like anthem. Sia explained that this album is made up of tracks previously rejected by other artists to record, so she went and did them herself. I’m glad they did, because after one listen of the album I couldn’t imagine anyone else singing these with as much gusto as Sia gives it. Unstoppable & Broken Glass are also classic Sia songs, both of which I have on repeat quite frequently. Dear Sia, thank you for another brilliant album.
