Yesterday I attended my first foodie event, an exclusive invitation from The Taste to join the Söder + Ko brunch. Situated in the heart of Dublin City on George’s Street, this restaurant’s concept is a fusion of Asian cuisine and Scandinavian design, to represent the purity & herbs and natural, earthy aspects of both cultures. And my what a wondrous combination this is! The architecture of Söder + Ko reflects those Scandinavian vibes, with Asian influences also present in the wallpaper choice, furniture and decor. Amidst the very well-lit surroundings indoors, there’s also an outdoor area that boasts live bands, sun-spots and even a fireplace for the chillier evenings.
The staff at Söder + Ko are ever-so inviting, with general manager Nuala giving the brunch group a tour of the premises, while Culinary Director and head chef Kwanghi Chan had a great chat with us about their food, their menu and the ideas behind their dishes, and mixologist Deirdre gave us a one-to-one cocktail-making lesson, which I took full advantage of! I made up two mocktails and my own cocktail, and had such fun behind the bar. After the cocktail lessons, we were invited to head upstairs to their ‘The He Isn’t Here Bar’ for our brunch session, where we oohed and aahed at the dishes the obviously talented team of chefs served up.
The food was delicious. So many flavours that I’ve not yet tried before together, but am very happy that I now have. The presentation is sublime, it’s eye-catching, it’s appealing, it’s colourful. And the cocktails are delightful, from their vast variety of cocktails, spirits and fruits, to the presentation and the glasses. I’ve met such lovely new bloggers too, and am really looking forward to staying in touch with the foodies of Ireland and looking forward to the new adventures this blog will take me on.
